Joyce, lung transplant recipient
Joyce, an authorised lay minister from Manchester, had the dramatic diagnosis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2012.
This is a rare and poorly understood condition that causes scarring of the lungs. There is no cure and the average UK survival rate from diagnosis is three years.
Her condition deteriorated and by 2014 she was on oxygen 24 hours a day and at times needed a wheelchair just to go outside.
Her surgery took 13 hours and the surgeon told Joyce afterwards she would probably not have survived very much longer without it. Joyce said:
"By going on the Organ Donation Register we all have the opportunity to be the answer to someone's prayer."
