NHS announces first-ever urgent response following sharp decline in organ donation

This Organ Donation Week, the public are being urged to take action and register as organ donors to halt a rapid decline in donation which has seen the organ transplant waiting list increase beyond record levels with 9 people dying every week.

NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on 1 million people in the UK to register their decision to be an organ donor. The plan announced on 5 August is to increase the number of people on the NHS Organ Donor Register.

July is South Asian Heritage Month, and NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on people to discuss organ donation with those closest to them, and to confirm their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register.
