Organ donation campaigns

Our current campaign

Pass it on

From spring 2020, all adults in England will be considered to have agreed to be an organ donor when they die unless they had recorded a decision not to donate or are in one of the excluded groups.

Organ donation law is changing

Pass it on

You can help spread the word!

Help us encourage people to:

  • Pass on the fact that the law is changing
  • Make a decision whether they want to pass on their organs to save and improve lives
  • Pass on their organ donation decision to their friends and family

Recent campaigns

Why do we campaign?

To promote public awareness about organ donation and transplantation.

To encourage people to join the NHS Organ Donor Register.

To encourage people to share their donation decision with their family and friends.

Many people don’t realise that their family’s support is needed for organ donation to go ahead, and fewer than half of families agree to donation going ahead if they are unaware of their loved one’s decision to be a donor.

In the UK

  • Around 6,000 people across the UK are waiting for an organ transplant
  • Only around 6,000 people each year die in circumstances where they can donate their organs
  • Three people a day die in need of a transplant due to a shortage of people being willing to donate organs

Get involved

There are lots of different ways to get involved.

Personal stories make a difference

We know that personal stories about organ donation or transplantation are really powerful. Seeing them on the TV, in newspapers or online can encourage others to join the NHS Organ Donor Register or trigger people to talk about organ donation.

Watch more films about families discussing the moment they said yes to organ donation.
