Ruban's story

Ruban knows only too well the life-changing difference a transplant will make.

Ruban, from Croydon, was born with chronic renal failure and is waiting for a second kidney transplant.

He needed his first transplant at the age of ten, which was donated by his dad.

The transplant lasted 16 years before failing, just as Ruban was working towards becoming a qualified teacher.

He said: “I think I must have picked up a couple of viruses from the kids and my whole system just shut down. I was in quite a critical condition.”

Ruban was told he would need to go on dialysis whilst he waited for a second transplant.

His brother has since been found to be a match, though Ruban is also on the transplant waiting list for an organ from a deceased donor.

You can actually change someone's life, and it's as simple as that.
