Ace is waiting for a life-changing kidney transplant.
BBC Radio 1Xtra presenter, DJ Ace, was diagnosed with diabetes which progressed into renal failure.
As he waits for a suitable match for a kidney transplant, he will continue dialysis treatment, visiting the hospital four times a week for four hours at a time.
Ace’s best match will be from a donor of the same ethnicity, but sadly Black patients will wait up to a year longer for a new kidney than White patients.
Organ Donation is something that’s very taboo in our community. We don’t talk about it.
Ace looks forward to the day he can take his children on holiday, and enjoy life without having to worry.
Every day across the UK, someone dies waiting for an organ transplant.
The law around organ donation in England has changed to help more people pass on more organs to save and improve more lives like Ace’s.
You still have a choice if you want to be an organ donor when you die.
Whatever you decide, make sure you let your family and friends know.
