Man who had 6 open heart surgeries for rare condition celebrates organ donor

A man who was born with a rare heart condition and had 6 open heart surgeries is celebrating the power of organ donation this World Heart Day (29 September 2026), after a heart transplant allowed him to go on to marry and become a father.

NHS announces first-ever urgent response following sharp decline in organ donation

This Organ Donation Week, the public are being urged to take action and register as organ donors to halt a rapid decline in donation which has seen the organ transplant waiting list increase beyond record levels with 9 people dying every week.

NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on 1 million people in the UK to register their decision to be an organ donor. The plan announced on 5 August is to increase the number of people on the NHS Organ Donor Register.
