Connor's story

“We were told pretty much as soon as we got to the hospital that there was nothing more the doctors could do to save Connor."

At the age of 27, Connor - a support worker in a care home for disabled children - had taken his own life.

Honouring Connor's decision

Connor had always supported organ donation but his family didn’t know he was on the NHS Organ Donor Register until it was mentioned in the hospital. His girlfriend then confirmed that he’d told her about his decision, and his family chose to honour his wishes and donate his organs.

“Connor was such a kind and caring person, so it was no surprise to us that he wanted to donate his organs to help someone else after he died. That’s just the type of person he was.”

Mandi recalls: “The specialist nurses who spoke to us about organ donation were amazing. They explained the whole process to us step by step and made sure we understood each part of the process. Nothing was too much trouble.

"We were all allowed time with Connor to say our goodbyes and we even got locks of his hair and hand prints as keepsakes – which will hopefully be a lasting memory, especially for his son Lawson.

Six lives saved

"He saved the lives of six people in the process and I will always be immensely proud of that... I think about them constantly and wish that they can look forward to a healthy future with the people they love.

"I am so grateful that Connor has been the rainbow in so many people’s clouds, he would be so proud of that!"
