Step 1 – Complete

Thank you, we have received your request to withdraw your details from the NHS Organ Donor Register. Providing your original registration has been processed, we will remove it and you should receive a letter of confirmation to the postal address you provided to us. Please be aware that the letter may take up to ten weeks to arrive. If you prefer, you can call us on 0300 123 23 23 to confirm that your details have been withdrawn.

If you live in England, Wales or Jersey and have completed the form to withdraw your details, this does not mean that you have opted out. Unless you tell your family that you don’t want to donate or are in a group excluded from the opt out legislation, it will be considered that you agree to be an organ donor. This is known as deemed consent. If you do not want to donate your organs, it’s important you complete the 'do not donate' form to register a decision that you don’t want to donate.

Step 2 – Please talk to your family

It’s essential to let your family know that you have withdrawn your details from the register. If you die in circumstances where donation is possible, we will ask your family if you expressed a verbal decision and if you did not, ask them to make a decision on your behalf.

They won’t know what you want unless you tell them, so help them now to support your decision at a difficult time.

In England, Wales and Jersey, there is an ‘opt out’ system in place. This means that if there is no recorded decision or your family do not know what your decision is, and you are not in an excluded group, it will be considered that you agree to be an organ donor.

If you change your mind, you can register again at any time or if you wish to register an opt out decision you can do that too.
