Living kidney donation

As a living kidney donor you can still go on to live a long, healthy life.

You could also completely transform the life of someone waiting for a transplant.

Who you could help

Over 7,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant right now.

Could you be the reason someone receives the organ they so desperately need?

Who can donate

Anyone over 18 can volunteer to become a living kidney donor. Over 16 if you live in Scotland.

Health conditions do not always stop you from donating. Your local living donation team will work with you to decide what's possible based on your individual situation.

Your health comes first

If you volunteer to become a living kidney donor, your living donation team will guide you through the assessment process and will always act in your best interests.

What to expect

If you chose to donate one of your kidneys to help someone else, you can expect to stay in hospital for a few days before recovering at home.

You will be encouraged to have yearly follow up appointments with a healthcare professional after your donation.

Living with one kidney

As a living kidney donor you can lead a normal, healthy life and take extra comfort from the fact you may have helped someone else to start living theirs.
