Ruban, 27, from Croydon is waiting for a second kidney transplant having been born with chronic renal failure.
He needed his first transplant at the age of 10, which was donated by his dad.
That transplant lasted 16 years before failing last year, when Ruban was working towards becoming a qualified teacher.
He said: “I think I must have picked up a couple of viruses from the kids and my whole system just shut down. I was in quite a critical condition.”
Ruban was told he would need to go on dialysis whilst he waited for a second transplant.
His brother has since been found to be a match, though Ruban is also on the transplant waiting list for an organ from a deceased donor.
He knows only too well the life-changing difference a transplant will make.
