Transplants are among the greatest successes of modern medicine. But this success depends entirely on the generosity of people who are willing to make the commitment to help others live after their death.
Over 16 million ‘Lifesavers’ have already signed up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and more are joining every week.
One person can give life to up to eight others, saving the sight of two people. The more people who agree to help someone live after their death, the more lives can be saved or transformed.
Leave a future for someone
There is a desperate shortage of organs. While more than 3500 transplant operations were carried out last year, there are still over 10,000 people in the UK who need a transplant. Of these, 1000 – on average 3 a day – die every year before they can have a transplant because there are simply not enough organs available.
Many of these lives could be saved if more people joined the Register and told their families that they want to donate.
If you want to be an organ donor, please join the NHS Organ Donor Register (link to registration pages) and let those closest to you know your wishes about organ donation.
