Black and Asian Organ Donation Campaign

Real People, Real Lives, Real Action

We need more people from Black and Asian communities to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register.

There is a real shortage of donors from these communities. As a result, Black and Asian people needing a transplant have to wait for a suitable organ than those from the general population.

If more people registered, more lives could be saved . That is why our campaign – featuring real people and real lives – aims to tackle this shortage. We also want to urge those already on the Register to discuss their decision with their families to make sure their choices are honoured.

Our ‘Real People, Real Lives, Real Action’ campaign will run from September 2011 to February 2012. Here’s how you can get involved:

  •  Take some ‘real action’ and Register now. And don’t forget to discuss your wishes with your family and encourage them – and friends – to register too
  • Support us on Facebook and help spread the word by sharing our page with friends. Here you will also find up to date campaign information and details of our events.
  • Follow us on Twitter and help us by retweeting our messages to your own followers
  • Come along to our donation events at shopping centres in key locations throughout the country – details of dates and locations will be on our Facebook and Twitter pages
  • Drop in to our faith sessions at places of worship to find out more about donation
  • Listen out for our local radio advertising, and look out for the information we will be mailing to 1,000s of households

You can find out more about the reasons behind our Black and Asian campaign and also religious perspectives on organ donation. Finally, please read our stories and about real people and real lives being affected by donation. And if you have a real life story you wish to share, please get in touch with us at campaigns@nhsbt.nhs.uk
